AEROSMITH Frontman Has Fun With National Anthem At WORLD SERIES Kick-Off
October 25, 2004Launch Radio Networks is reporting that AEROSMITH lead singer Steven Tyler had a little fun with the national anthem when he sang it on Saturday before the hometown Boston Red Sox beat the St. Louis Cardinals in Game One of the World Series at Fenway Park. Tyler opened with a little bit of harmonica playing, then he added a short burst of his patented, high-pitched scatting after the line "O'er the land of the free."
Tyler's done the anthem before, including for the Red Sox and the Patriots, but his most infamous performance was probably at the Indianapolis 500 back in May 2001. That day, he changed the last line of the song from "the home of the brave" to "the home of the Indianapolis 500." The race take place over Memorial Day weekend, and some veterans were unhappy with the version, so Tyler had to apologize for offending anyone.
